Lil Wayne’s original version of ‘Tha Carter V’ dropping this Friday

Mack Maine announced the good news in honor of Tunechi’s birthday week.

Lil Wayne’s camp kicked off early birthday celebrations for the rapper with some exciting news. On Monday (Sept. 21), Mack Maine, the president of Young Money Entertainment and a frequent collaborator, came through with two presents — one for Weezy’s garage and one for his fans.

In a video shared to Young Money’s Instagram, Maine announced that the original version of Wayne’s 2018 LP Tha Carter V will arrive on Friday (Sept. 25). The rapper revealed the news while driving Wayne’s other present — an amethyst McLaren.

“I heard y’all always wanted that OG CV, ya heard?” Maine said while driving the flashy new car and playing what appeared to be an unreleased Wayne song. “I’m bumping that [CV] right there and I’m gon’ make sure y’all can bump it, too. Carter V Deluxe — OG Carter V — baby. Happy birthday, Tunechi! The GOAT!”

Maine then pulled up to Weezy, who was all smiles as he took video of his new sports-car.

“Y’all saw that smile? That’s what I did it for,” Maine said. “That smile was priceless. Just to see my little brother smile like that, I feel like I did my job.”

Tha Carter V was initially due in 2014. However, after a lengthy feud with Birdman and a contractual dispute with Cash Money Records, the album was completely different by the time it finally dropped in 2018. A few tracks from the project’s original iteration later leaked online, such as “Just Chill” with Justin Bieber and “Mute” featuring Big Sean. It’s unclear which songs — leaked or never-before-heard — will materialize on the forthcoming version.

As if a brand-new Carter V wasn’t enough, Wayne has also recently teased the series’ next installment. During an appearance on ESPN, the New Orleans rap-star confirmed that “Carter VI [is] coming soon,” but not before another sequel — No Ceilings 3.

“I got No Ceilings coming first,” he explained. “No Ceilings 3.”

Both projects will follow up Wayne’s Funeral album from earlier this year. Check out Mack Maine’s announcement below.
