It was back in August when Rick Ross premiered his new single “Pinned To The Cross” during his “Verzuz” battle with 2 Chainz. Produced by AraabMUZIK and Fuse 808, the track sees Rozay addressing many of the current issues currently address our community:

“Racists killing for cotton, n***as fighting for honor, in the South you’re forgotten, call my city the bottom, kilos get to deposits, living like it’s the lotto, this my moment of glory, grandiose is the dollar/

Always postin’ your sneakers, you’re the one that they follow, I’m a born to be leader, such a collection of knowledge, are we dead or alive? Unforgettable highs, know the Lord lookin’ down, for the day that we rise/”

The visual comes courtesy of Spike Jordan, and mainly shows a contrast between Rick Ross at his Georgia mansion and the increasing unrest taking place outside following the loss of Black lives at the hands of police. Matthews appears seemingly as a butler of sorts, assisting Ross with watches and, toward the end, taking what’s leftover from a feast to feed the community at Ross’ request. Things then become more striking, as protestors (or presumed revolutionaries) can be seen breaking into a police officer’s home and dragging him and his family outside before burning said home ablaze — all while Ross performs the track in front of it.

Pinned To The Cross” is said to be taken from Ross’ forthcoming album Richer Than I’ve Ever Been,” which will be making landfall before year’s end. Prior to that, he released his tenth studio album Port Of Miami 2, the sequel to Ross’ iconic debut that saw 15 cuts and plenty of features, including Summer Walker, DeJ Loaf, the late Nipsey Hussle, Jeezy, Lil Wayne, Teyana Taylor, and Ross’ MMG family Meek Mill, Wale, and Gunplay.
