The Metropolitan Police Department has released two videos of the shooting of Deon Kay, the 18-year-old Black man who was shot and killed by officers in Washington, D.C.

In the footage, after cops pull up to a car in the parking lot of an apartment building, an officer quickly exits the car and approaches the vehicle.

The officer briefly chases after a fleeing individual while repeatedly yelling, “Don’t move.”

The cop then turns around and sees Kay who was a holding a gun. When Kay raises the firearm, a gunshot is heard and he collapses to the ground. As Kay falls, a voice is heard saying, “He tossed it there.”

One of the videos then pans to Kay’s right hand in slow motion to show he was holding a firearm.

D.C. officers responded to a call on Wednesday (Sept. 2) about a man with a firearm in the Congress Heights neighborhood of Southeast D.C. The cops discovered a group of people in a parked car and approached the vehicle, causing Kay and another man to flee, while a third guy pulled out a gun. Cops rang fire, striking Kay in the chest. Kay reportedly threw the gun nearly 100 feet after he was shot. He was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Since the shooting, protesters have aligned the D.C. streets to request that Police Chief Pete Newsham be fired.

“I’m tired of that sh*t ‘cause my tax money just paid for that young man to get murdered…,” one protester said in a tweeted video. “We’ve been getting assassinated and I’m tired of it. So guess what? It’s gonna get nasty before it gets any nicer.”

Two other individuals were arrested at the crime scene. Marcyelle Smith, 19, was charged with carrying a firearm without a license and Deonte Brown, 19, was charged with “operating a vehicle without a license.”
