It’s pretty amazing to see how New York hip hop continues to evolve and diversify its sound, from more melodic artists like A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie to frontrunners of the still-growing Brooklyn drill scene like Fivio Foreign. Now, Swwish is looking to add to that, bringing his unique brand of music, fashion sense, and east coast sensibilities to sunny Calabasas, California. Having already made waves with previous singles “Bands Up,” “Seppuku,” and the Ashley’s Escape-assisted “Bonnie,” Swwish returns with his latest single “Know Me,” which is produced by Noc and Tiernan Kelly and sends a confident message to the industry about his impending successes:
“They finna know us, doors not suicide, but yeah n***a they go up, I been going crazy, they didn’t expect the glow up/
No feeling inside, I got no pain or emotion, why they cappin’ now actin like they know me, got a lot of money, b***h I keep it on me…/”
The accompanying visual comes courtesy of LOUIEKNOWS and sees Swwish enjoying his new vibes, with shots of a private plane, high-end luxury cars, a fly residence, and — of course — plenty of cash to continue his top-tier lifestyle. Add in his one-of-a-kind threads, the bright clip definitely shows the rising star as a man in his own world, separating himself from the usual characteristics that others display around him.
Speaking to Forbes, Swwish spoke on his New York influences:
“Growing up in New York, you have a lot of people who want to be rappers, put on for the city and make it out. Historically we have the best rappers bar for bar, from Jay Z to Joey Bada$$, on down. I’ve always looked at it from the perspective of putting my versatility on display to differentiate myself from the pack a little more than the people who strictly focus on their bars.”
