Last month, Jim Jones delivered a powerful new cut titled “The People,” which was released in response to the loss of Black lives due to racism and systematic oppression. Now, the Harlem legend upgrades the single with a dope remix, which features additional assistance from Conway The Machine and Marc Scibilia. As expected, the collaborators continue to fight back against the powers that be on wax:

“Kaep took a knee but I think it’s time we take a stand, that crooked cop put his knee on the neck of a sacred man/

We still searchin’ for equal rights inside this racist land, that all started when Columbus docked here to take the land/

With the spirits of the Haitians, we take the power or the land back, this .40 got so much power, man, I think you should stand back…/”

Since the protests have taken over cities around the country, Conway The Machine has contributed to the soundtrack as well, delivering his own track “Front Lines.” He also teamed up with The Alchemist and Big Ghost LTD to release Lulu and No One Mourns The Wicked, respectively.

Speaking to Baller Alert, Jim Jones explained his reasoning for releasing a song like “The People”:

“I was trying to find my place within everything going on. We need creativity from these artists to push the people to continue the narrative. This is my contribution to giving you an anthem, make you want to go march more. I hope people are enjoying it. I hope they listen to the words because it’s a lot of jewels in that record. I thank everybody who supported it. The proceeds minus some of the mechanicals are all going to his [George Floyd’s] family. I’ve been figuring out how we could do that the proper way, been talking about it on the Gram.”
