G-Eazy liberates dark visual for “Back To What You Knew”
The track is taken from his latest release ‘Everything’s Strange Here.’
Last Friday saw the release of G-Eazy’s latest project Everything’s Strange Here, which sees him stepping away from his usual hip hop cuts for a blend of different alternative genres, including rock, folk, and blues. One excellent example of such a mix is the album standout “Back To What You Knew,” which, as with the previous single, “Had Enough,” seems to allude to a past relationship turned toxic:
“I think we might be over this time, yeah, I thought that we was over last time/
At least could you be sober this time, so we can maybe finally find some closure this time?/
You really f***ed me over this time, but I guess at least we came closer this time/
We thought that it would work ‘cause we was older this time, you really f***ed me over this time, I mean I guess we came closer this time…/”
The Richard Tandy, G-Eazy, and Austin Ward-produced cut also sees a dark, melancholy visual to match. The Lauren Dunn-directed clip takes place in a bedroom, where G-Eazy and his significant other go through the motions of arguing, silence, and sex, only to wake up and continue to routine.
Everything’s Strange Here follows 2017’s The Beautiful & Damned, which saw 20 tracks from the Bay Area star and a plethora of features from Halsey, Cardi B, A$AP Rocky, Kehlani, E-40, Charlie Puth, and more. The project proved successful for G-Eazy, debuting at the number three spot on the Billboard 200 with 122,000 album equivalent units sold. Prior to that, he released These Things Happen and When It’s Dark Out in 2014 and 2015, respectively. Currently, he’s putting the finishing touches on These Things Happen Too, which is expected to be released by year’s end.
