Inglewood brothers D Smoke and SiR hit the virtual BET Awards 2020 stage with a moving performance of their song “Let Go,” Sunday (June 28) evening with Smoke and their mother wrapping it up with “Black Habits.”

The performance of “Let Go,” which was written the day after the death of George Floyd, opens up on Los Angeles’ historic “Manchester Avenue” with a contortionist dancer dressed in all black rising between police in riot gear. Juxtapose, is D Smoke standing on a destroyed, burned out car with sunny L.A. and palm trees as a backdrop.

The talented “Rhythm & Flow” winner delivers his verse then hops on the piano while SiR calms the energy with his soothing vocals. “I reach out despite the feeling they out to kill us / Get rowdy ‘bout the pesos / The solution for this cold institution / Just to breathe, we need to let go,” the Grammy award-nominated TDE singer croons.

D Smoke’s performance of “Black Habits,” off his debut album of the same name, was just as dynamic as he brought out his mother, Jackie Gouche, who is also happens to be featured on the song.

“This song’s in the key of life and love is in need of more,” he spits on the progressive Seige Monstracity-produced number. “Young nigga from Inglewood, barefoot on a cedar floor / If black music is the blood, then my heart has been beatin’.”

Despite the ongoing pandemic, D Smoke and SiR managed to put on a virtual performance for the BET Awards that was both emotional and powerful while also delivering a strong message against police brutality. The skilled artists also managed to bring a piece of L.A. essence with them along the way, creating a compelling stage for them to get their word across.
