On Friday (June 12), dozens of people gathered at Palmdale City Council Chambers in hopes of finding answers related to Robert Fuller, a 24-year-old black man that was found hanging from a tree in Los Angeles.

On Wednesday morning (June 10), Fuller’s older sister Diamond Alexander confirmed her brother’s death in a post shared on Facebook. “Words can’t describe how much my family is hurting right now,” Alexander wrote.

“Today we just got word that Robert’s body was found hanging in a tree out in Palmdale. It’s still under investigation. If anyone seen anything please come forward. Brother, you will forever be in our heart. RIP,” Alexander concluded.

Palmdale City described Fuller’s passing as “an alleged death by suicide.” At the moment, the investigation remains ongoing and a full autopsy is expected to be conducted soon. “The City of Palmdale extends its sincere condolences and sympathies to the family and friends of the individual who tragically passed away in Palmdale on Wednesday. Our thoughts and prayers are with them,” a statement shared to the City of Palmdale Government’s Facebook page read.

“Many people are suffering extreme mental anguish and the City wants everyone to know that help is available. There are local resources such as Mental Health America of Los Angeles, AV Vet Center, and the Los Angeles County Department of Mental Health,” the post continued.

Following a press conference on Friday (June 12), another statement was released, providing very little details about the investigation. “We will fully cooperate with the Sheriff’s Department, the Los Angeles County’s Coroner’s Offices, and any and all investigative agencies looking into the matter,” Palmdale Mayor Steven D. Hofbauer said.

Hofbauer continued, “We are awaiting all available details surrounding this tragedy. In addition, we are working with local community leaders to increase the dialogue on how we can best work together and build a safer and more inclusive community.”
