The success of Issa Rae’s Insecure as a TV show has elevated over the years since its debut back in October 2016. Each season has its own unique way of depicting the show’s memorable moments in a way that is highly effective and relatable — music. The soundtracks for Insecure have been nothing but top-tier and Issa Rae has done a marvelous job at following up great dialogue with even better music to compliment and keep the fans’ attention span tightly gripped. Today, Issa Rae brings forth the complete soundtrack for Insecure Season 4 and rightfully so, it’s fire emojis from top to bottom.

Rae most certainly contributes much more to the music in the HBO series than her mirror raps. Working closely with the show’s music supervisor Kier Lehman and composer Raphael Saadiq, the creator and star is always prompt with curating Spotify playlists that she updates each week after the airing of each episode on Sundays.

Off screen, Issa generally goes in putting a spotlight on lesser-known artists and selecting new music for Insecure. In an April interview with Hypebeast, she said she’s “very, very hands on” with music selection and credited Lehman with putting her on to “new stuff.” Issa added that he’ll send her anywhere from 30 to 60 tracks, and she’ll leave notes about what songs would fit or what vibes she’s feeling.

“Right away in Season 1 he asked me what kind of vibe I was looking for in the show and I told him I wanted female energy, I wanted LA energy and I wanted to support independent artists — I wanted to use good music. And since then he’s been feeding that. It’s a combination of music that I’m already excited about and new artists that he’ll bring my way.”

Kudos to Mr. Lehmen for having that musical ear to help Issa Rae create such greatness in each of the soundtracks! Featuring artists like Tyler The Creator, Saweetie, ScHoolboy Q, Vince Staples and many more, the Insecure Season 4 Soundtrack has a very high replay value.
