Despite his current incarceration, Kodak Black isn’t letting anything stop his musical output. This week, the Florida star delivers a new track titled “Vultures Cry 2,” an apparent sequel to his Heart Break Kodak cut back in 2018. The track features assistance from WizDaWizard and Mike Smiff, and sees the collaborators keeping things street over production from Helluva Beats:

“I been tryna let you n***as know, like I’m dyin’, tryna live, kill the game like I did before/

I got the whole gang drunk, got ‘em in the Yo, I was sleeping’ on the bunk, eating’ Sloppy Joe/

You could tell I’m from the North, tell I’m gettin’ dough, I been damned if I don’t, pull up in a Ghost/

I done been ran it up, been with the stacks, I done been leveled up, been have the sack, like I been here before, spittin’ truth, facts…/”

The track also comes with a WavyLord-directed visual that sees Kodak Black in animated form while his compadres are filmed in real life. 3D Kodak is almost godlike with white eyes, donning his prison jumper yet free from the ball and chain that currently has him locked down. He’s also seen falling from the sky in a forest surrounded by vultures, an apparent reference to the song’s title and chorus.

Today also marks Kodak’s 23rd birthday, and it brings some good news for those hoping to see him free sooner than later — Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle reportedly agreed to dismiss gun charges against the rapper. As such, Kodak becomes eligible to be moved to a halfway house during the last year of his sentence, meaning he could be free from prison by next year. Even more recently, a judge agreed that the Florida native’s criminal history was exaggerated, which Kodak Black’s attorney Bradford Cohen explained to XXL:

“The reason why we filed a Rule 46—Motion to Correct Clerical Error—is because in the PSI, which is a Presentence Investigation report, it listed his prior criminal history as a category level three, which obviously is more serious than a one, two, three is worse… But, they used a three in the PSI. The judge agreed with me at the time of sentencing that the level three overstates his criminal history because some of his priors were for like possession of under 20 grams of marijuana.”

As the fans await Kodak’s eventual release back into the real world, they can press play on “Vultures Cry 2” below.
