For his latest, Dave East has decided to deliver some new music for his fans, utilizing a classic film to bring his new single to life. This week, the Harlem native drops off a new single titled “Menace,” which sees him talking about the many struggles of life in the ‘hood, from lack of resources to violence with those outside of his loved ones:

“They gave us the less, we tryna get the most, I would wake up so broke, corners be posted/

Just stay on some loc s*** I was so down and ain’t nobody notice, I was too young to be at them funerals/

Baggin’ up, residue all in my cuticles, life was so ugly but now it look beautiful, watch when we movin’ through/

Them n***as retarded, don’t know what they’ll do to you, one think of stabbing you, one think of shooting you, I keep my circle as close as a hula hoop/”

The accompanying video brings the song to life by re-enacting classic scenes from the iconic John Singleton-helmed film Boyz N The Hood. Dave East can be seen playing the classic role of Doughboy, the main catalyst for revenge once his friend Ricky is lawlessly killed in an alleyway.

In addition to the new video and its apparent message (“They Label US… Menaces To Society. That’s Why They Act How [They] Act”), Dave also made sure to pay his respects to fallen soldier George Floyd via social media:

“George Floyd Rest In Paradise King. All The Other Soldiers That Lost They Life To The Devil Y’all Immortal Now Iconic. Y’all Gone Live Forever. My Pops Told Me This Ain’t Gone Ever Change. It Was Like This When He Was A Kid And Ain’t Shit Changed Except We Can Record It Now. God Bless US. F*** Amerikkka…”

Press play on “Menace” below. Also included is another recent release from East titled “My Loc.”
