REVOLT.TV is home to exclusive interviews from rising stars to the biggest entertainers and public figures of today. Here is where you get the never-before-heard stories about what’s really happening in the culture from the people who are pushing it forward.

Bia is finally getting the attention she deserves. The Boston native arrives as one of the most talented female MCs of our generation, who’s unleashing banger after banger. But real name Bianca Landrau isn’t a new artist, she’s been grinding and putting in the work for years.

Getting her start on Oxygen’s reality television show “Sisterhood of Hip Hop,” she went on to sign to Pharrell’s i am OTHER imprint in partnership with RCA Records. However, things didn’t work out there. Thankfully, Bia happily inked a new deal with Epic Records. (If you need a refresher, bump “Free Bia (1st Day Out)” and you’ll understand).

It was her standout feature on Russ’ “Best On Earth” that would catch the attention of Rihanna herself, who went on to post the song to her millions of followers on Instagram. With her new single “Cover Girl” she gives even more reason for fans to look forward to her forthcoming project.

REVOLT caught up with Bia to talk her career, top five artists, love for fashion, relationships, goals, and more! Read below.

How’s quarantine life treating you?

Girl, it’s been so boring. I’m trying to make the most of it, but also stay positive and stay busy. I’ve been using it to get a lot of work done, so that’s been cool. I got a home recording set up, so I’m going to start recording myself at home. That’s going to be super time consuming.

What’s the first thing you’re going to do when this is all over?

Part of me wants to go and see my family, but I don’t trust this s**t. I just want to know… what’s the tea?

“Cover Girl” is a banger! It’s like the world has finally caught on.

It does feel like that right? I’ve been like, “Hey, I’ve been here the whole time!” “Cover Girl” hits different because I did that with my friends. It was one of the songs I did while I was independent still. It was a point where I had to reinvent myself. I’m really grateful I had such good friends to pull me out of that creative slump, keep me motivated and keep me active and creative. I love “Cover Girl” so much because it’s me catching a vibe with my friends.

You got every cosign in the industry! How big or small is your circle?

What matters more is who really f**ks with you for you. All the cosigns genuinely I believe f**k with me for me. That always feels good because I’m not one of those people who’s big on validation. I never care who likes me and who doesn’t like me. When it’s people that you admire and you look to for inspiration, it hits differently.

“Free Bia” was a statement in itself. You went through it with RCA. How therapeutic was it for you to record that?

It was definitely therapeutic. It’s something a lot of artists go through and there’s no way that they can get that emotion off. For me, it was ventilation. I’m grateful that even in my new journey to have people that supported that still. Me going into a new situation, they said, “No you have a story and that’s important, you should get that off.” It’s important they wanted to be a part of this with me. I love that.

A lot of people go independent and they’ll never sign to another major. How difficult was it to make that executive decision to sign to Epic Records?

It’s crazy because every meeting I went to, they knew I was a worried dog. I’m like, “I don’t know how I feel about this.” I’m big off energy and vibes, and Sylvia is an incredible woman. I want to be around women. I want to be around people who understand me and aren’t trying to change me, but want to help me elevate and be the best me. I have a really close friend who’s actually my A&R, all of those things they play a part. These are people who start to know you for you, not just you as an artist.

Who’s your A&R?

Zoe [Young]. It’s really really fire. I’ve known her for the last three years.

Your album must be sounding crazy then!

My album is sounding very fire right now. I’m going to drop a nice project shortly, definitely before summer’s over. We’re in the summer right now, so it’s coming any minute. I’m mastering it right now as we speak, I’m excited to get that off. “Cover Girl” is on there, these are more my solo songs. My reintroduction I’ll say.

You’re probably being sick of being asked about “Best On Earth,” but did you think it would go this big?

I knew it was going to be a big song because Russ is so incredible. But, I didn’t know it was going to be like that. No, I had no idea it was going to be life-changing.

Best memory from the video shoot?

It’s my best memory now, but at the time it was my worst memory. They made me get into that ice cold tub. At first, I thought, “Are y’all really tryna make me get in a cold tub?” I wanted to be like, “What’s wrong with y’all? This is dumb! I’m not getting in there.” But then, I decided, “You know what? I’ma be a team player and I’ma get in this tub.” I got in the tub and loved the shot. It’s my favorite shot of the video, so I’m glad.

Was it painfully cold?

It was very cold, like catching pneumonia cold.

What’s your relationship with Rihanna now?

I’m just a fan. I admire her from afar. We’re cool. I love and appreciate her for life. That’s my good sis forever. Forever grateful for her.

Are you with Savage x Fenty?

Yes, I actually am with Savage x Fenty. You’ll be seeing my line. My Savage x Fenty post is coming soon!

Referencing the line “Van Nuys on the touchdown,” do you flying private jets?

Yes, I’m talking about PJs! Because of the quarantine, I haven’t been on a PJ in a while, but I had a nice little PJ run for a while. Shout out to my boy PJ Kev. That’s the jet plug.

What does Bia look for in a man?

Loyalty and a real genuine soul. A genuine person. It’s about what’s going on in real life, I’m not super into meeting people on social media.

Do you want a relationship?

I’m in a relationship if that’s what you’re asking. I like to keep it private.

He’s the one who has to fork up the bag?

Yasss, I have my honey! I’m so mad that “Cover Girl” has given me that terrible… that’s what people say.

No, but it’s so true. Girls should be treated as queens.

Exactly, you have to treat your man like a king, too. You have to be a good woman to have a good man. I’m so grateful, he’s such a good man.

You’ve been whipping it up in the kitchen right?

Yes, I’ve been cooking! We’ve been blessing each other with the meals. He might cook a little bit better than me, but I’m not going to give him all that credit. We have our signature dishes. Mine is lamb chops, I love lamb chops.

You’ve been slaying your looks. Do you have a stylist or do you do everything on your own?

No stylist! (French Montana voice) I have a couple friends who style that I do collab looks with. Sometimes, I have people style me but for my day to day, no I really don’t use a stylist.

Do you have a passion for fashion as well?

Ab-so-lute-ly! I definitely do. I’m still learning. Fashion is one of those things that you can’t stop learning. It’s like music, you have to do your homework. That’s another thing I’m trying to get well-versed in. I have my own style, but I’m still writing my own fashion handbook.

Top five artists in rotation right now?

Let me see (checks phone). Top five right now: Roddy Rich, 42 Dugg, Summer Walker. Always Summer Walker. I got homegirl Coi Leray in there. Fivio Foreign.

Favorite person to follow on instagram?

My friend Big Larry. You need to go follow him. He’s outlandish. He’s ridiculous.

Any goals for yourself right now?

I really, really really want to chart this year. Get some plaques. Especially chart with a song of my own, no features. That’s a big goal for me. I’d like to do more of that, show people I can make songs on my own, too.

Are you open to features?

Yeah, I’m more into organic moments. Meeting up in real life. Me and Russ really linked up in real life. I always feel that’s how you get the best features, when you link with people and catch a vibe. I got a couple collabs in the works for sure.
