Megan Thee Stallion has joined the long list of celebrities who have donated funds to bail relief efforts for protesters throughout the country. The “Captain Hook” rapper took to Instagram to share with her fans that she donated over $10,000 to bail relief efforts in her hometown of Houston, Texas.
“I love my people and I love my city!!!” she captioned the post. “Any contribution helps! Swipe to see some sites where you can donate money to the bail funds of protestors!!! #Blacklivesmatter.”
The funds were donated to Restoring Justice, a Houston-based organization that is dedicated to ending mass incarceration.
Drake has donated $100,000 to National Bail Out after he was challenged by songwriter Mustafa The Poet. “My Toronto Kings [Drake] [The Weeknd],” Mustafa wrote on Instagram. “Swipe up & match my donation, but add 3 zeros! Let’s help reunite black families.”
The “Toosie Slide” MC replied to the request on his Instagram Story by writing, “[Mustafa the Poet] say less.” He also posted a screen shot of his donation.
The Weeknd has donated $500,000 to several organizations to support protesters. Of his hefty donation, $200,000 went to the Black Lives Matter Global Network, another $200,000 was given to Colin Kaepernick’s Know Your Rights campaign and the remaining $100,000 went to the National Bail Out Fund.
“Keep supporting our brothers and sisters out there risking everything to push for actual change for our black lives,” the After Hours singer wrote on Instagram. “Urging everyone with big pockets to give and give big and if you have less please give what you can even if it’s a small amount. #Blacklivesmatter.”
Kaepernick’s organization has offered to pay the legal fees for any protesters who have been arrested. “In fighting for liberation there‘s always retaliation,” the former NFL player tweeted. “We must protect our Freedom Fighters. We started a legal defense initiative to give legal representation to Freedom Fighters in Minneapolis paid for by @yourrightscamp.”
