The hip hop community is speaking out against the tragic death of George Floyd. Yesterday (May 25), a police officer pinned Floyd down by his neck with his knee until he became unconscious. Witnesses said Floyd yelled, “I can’t breathe,” numerous times, but the officers ignored his calls. Eventually, he was transported to the hospital where he later died.

Video of the entire incident went viral on social media. People have called for the officers to be fired, arrested and charged with his death. Meek Mill took to Twitter to inquire about why black people still don’t have protection against cops.

“After all these videos of cops beating us like slaves, we still don’t have no protection,” he tweeted. “Nobody haven’t issued a order for the police to stop killing us! Is that not possible? Or they just saying protect yourself???”

Ice Cube also addressed Floyd’s death on Twitter. “How long will we go for Blue on Black Crime before we strike back???” the “It Was A Good Day” rapper tweeted, along with the video of the incident.

Polo G also shared his views on the senseless killing on social media. “They got it instilled in our minds that the police can’t b touched or they off limits,” he wrote. “When they bleed just like us…How many Times They gotta show they don’t fuck wit us For ppl to Finally Get it Dis shit gon have controversy Blow up y’all protest it blow over then It happen again.”

The four cops involved in Floyd’s death have been fired from the police department. The FBI is now investigating and hopefully they will be arrested and charged. Protests have been planned around the country to demand justice for Floyd and his family. Check out more reactions from members of the hip hop community below.
