Back in 2018, Lloyd delivered his fifth studio LP Tru, which saw 11 tracks and features from Khujo Goodie, Curren$y, Sevyn Streeter, Rick Ross, long-time collaborator Lil Wayne, and more. The album marked a big return for Lloyd since 2011’s King of Hearts, which was in itself the first project since his departure from The Inc. (formerly known as Murder Inc.). Now, he returns with a new single titled “Slow Wine Bass Line,” which features assistance from R&B/hip hop legend Teddy Riley. The upbeat groove also samples Keith Sweat’s classic hit single “Right and a Wrong Way,” which Riley also produced.

As expected from any song that Teddy Riley had a hand in, the track is perfect for that slow dance in the club (or the bedroom):

“Somebody cut the lights off, the party’s jumpin’ right off, I’ve been waitin’ all night, and I think it’s the right song/

I pull on your waist line, I don’t wanna waste time, I wanna slow wine, do it the bass line/”

Teddy Riley recently made headlines for his appearance on the Swizz Beatz and Timbaland-helmed “Verzuz” series, which allows your favorite artists to battle each each over IG live. The series has almost single-handedly become a welcome alternative to all who are still hunkering down during the Coronavirus pandemic.

Lloyd initially made an impact on the music scene with his debut studio LP Southside in 2004. Three years later, he struck Gold (literally) with his sophomore offering Street Love, which was led by the singles “Player’s Prayer,” “Get It Shawty,” and the Weezy F Baby-assisted, top ten single “You.”

Speaking to VIBE, Lloyd spoke on the power of creating a song that can last for a lifetime:

“I learned through the song that sometimes being No. 1 doesn’t always mean it’s the best.. A song can be No. 1 and fade out immediately and a song that’s No. 10 might still be around for years to come.”
