Ahead of her It Was Good Until It Wasn’t album’s release tomorrow (May 8), Kehlani was featured on the inaugural episode of “R&B Now with Nadeska,” where she talked about her forthcoming sophomore album. More specifically, the songstress explained how a conversation with Drake inspired the 15-track effort’s title.

“We had went to Canada to finish our — I always say ‘our’ album because I fu*k with my team so heavy, like, it was me, my videographer, my little play brother that I co-write with, my assistants,” Kehlani told podcast host Nadeska Alexis. “So, I went to go finish the project, and the last day we went with Boi-1da and ended up going to Drake’s house.

“We’re just having, like, a life conversation, talking about the old music, talking about what we’re both ‘bout to do,” she continued. “And then I was just talking about [my] personal life and I was just like, ‘Man, yeah it was good until it wasn’t’ and he was like, ‘Say that sh*t again,’ and I was like ‘What?’ and he was like ‘That’s your album.’ And I was like, ‘You might be fu*kin’ right.’”

Kehlani recently revealed the album’s title, cover art and tracklist on social media. The project is expected to host features from Tory Lanez, Jhené Aiko, Masego, Lucky Daye, James Blake and Megan Thee Stallion on the “Real Hot Girl Skit,” as well as the previously released “Toxic,” “Everybody Business” and “F&MU.” It Was Good Until It Wasn’t will come to a close with “Lexii’s Outro,” a nod toward Kehlani’s former collaborator, who passed away earlier this year from an accidental drug overdose.

It Was Good Until It Wasn’t will serve as a follow-up to Kehlani’s 2019 While We Wait mixtape and her 2017 debut, SweetSexySavage. See the album’s cover art and tracklist below.
