Since the release of her sixth studio album Two Eleven, R&B veteran Brandy has been more or less out of the spotlight. She did drop a loose single in 2016 titled “Beggin & Pleadin,” and she delivered another single titled “Freedom Rings” last year. She’s also provided assists in that time frame for Daniel Caesar, Anderson .Paak, and even her brother Ray J. Now, she makes a big return with a new offering titled “Baby Mama,” which features Chance The Rapper and sees her paying homage to independent mothers over production from Hit-Boy:

“Only kind of first real love, my baby got them dreams, she can touch and a voice from above/

She’s a pearl in the rough, tt takes a village to raise ‘em, we don’t do it all by ourselves/

I know my smile can be upstagin’, on the stage, I provide like a daddy…/”

She recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight Canada about how the collaboration came together:

“I think the song has a powerful message, just celebrating all mothers who are just holding it down for their family, and of course their children that look up to them that need that guiding light. It’s just a fun, fun beat, it’s upbeat… Chance, he really blessed the track with his verse.”

Since her 1994 debut, Brandy has sold more than 40 million albums worldwide, earning a wealth of Gold and Platinum certifications in her career. She’s also won a plethora of different awards, including a Grammy, an American Music award, and several from Billboard, MTV, BMI, MOBO, and more. She’s also been successful on both the big and small screen — her show “Moesha” still stands as one of the best black sitcoms of all time.

You can press play on “Baby Mama” below. Hopefully, we’ll be learning more about Brandy’s forthcoming album soon.
