A 26-year-old man named Matthew David Hughes reportedly broke into Eminem’s Detroit-area home earlier this month in an attempt to meet the famed rapper. According to TMZ, Em awoke to the sound of an intruder alarm around 4 a.m. on April 6, after Hughes had broken in through a kitchen window, using a rock to shatter the glass.

Em confronted Hughes and called for his security, who had been guarding the front of his house, while Hughes had entered through the back. Security reportedly rushed to detain the intruder until police arrived on the scene.

According to Macomb County Jail online records, Hughes was booked on two felony charges, including first-degree home invasion and malicious destruction of a building. He’s currently being held in the Macomb County Jail with a bond of $51,400.

However, authorities reportedly don’t believe that Hughes was attempting to steal from the house. Instead, he was hoping to meet Eminem.

Besides fending off home intruders, Eminem recently revealed he’s been using his quarantine time to write new music.

“Fame has definitely over the years kinda already had me quarantined, but it’s the fact of knowing that you can’t really go out and we can’t move like how we normally move,” he said of social distancing during an interview with Sway Calloway on Shade 45. “It’s not just the same thing for me every day that it always is. There’s something to be said about knowing that you can’t go out and do certain things.”

“It’s not the same when you can’t do a lot of your regular routines and sh*t, and going to the studio is like my outlet,” he continued. “We can’t really get in and do much, so I’ve just been writing.”

Last week, Em launched his “Love Your DJ” competition, which offered Michigan-based DJs a chance to be featured on his Shade 45 SiriusXM radio station and win a cash prize. Winners’ music will be played during the station’s “Love Your DJ Mixshow Takeover” segment, which begins on Monday (May 2).
