In a new interview with All Hip Hop, Talib Kweli has offered an update on his and Yasiin Bey’s highly anticipated Black Star reunion album. The Madlib-executive produced project will mark the duo’s first studio album since their inaugural 1998 Mos Def & Talib Kweli Are Black Star.

“I’m always recording. I have an album with Diamond D and a new Black Star album with Yasiin Bey on the way,” Kweli told the outlet about the forthcoming project. “[We’re] trying to find the right deal for the Black Star album. There are a few on the table, but we have to choose the right situation and roll this out properly. The people deserve that.”

Last November, Kweli confirmed that the Brooklyn-bred pair’s album was “done” and said that he listens to it “all the time.”

“This project with Madlib is done. We just trying to figure out when and how to release it,” Kweli told Ebro Darden during his Beats 1 radio show. “That’s a confirmed thing. I listen to it all the time.”

Earlier this month, DJ Spintelect offered more details during an exclusive interview with REVOLT.

“I know it’s all Madlib production,” he revealed. “I heard a joint with Nas on it. That’s the only feature I’ve heard on the album so far. Kweli was playing it for me recently when we were on tour; a rough version.”

Touring with Kweli for nearly a decade, Spintelect also shared some behind-the-scenes insight into the MC and Bey’s long-lasting partnership.

“The music is timeless and they know those records inside and out,” he said about their performance chemistry. “So, their talks are more conversations about how things are going in the world. They’ve been working on a new Black Star album and the talks have been what is going to happen with that.”
