This past January, Lil Wayne delivered his thirteenth studio LP Funeral, a massive body of work that contains 24 tracks and appearances from XXXTentacion, Lil Twist, Takeoff, Jay Rock, Big Sean, Lil Baby, 2 Chainz, The-Dream, and more. Following his flashy visual for the album cut “Mama Mia” comes a two-for-one offering for the tracks “Piano Trap” and “Not Me.” Directed by Ricky Willis, the clip sees Weezy F. Baby out for a late night skakeboarding session dubbed “BROVID-17” after the current Coronavirus pandemic. Free of any special effects or theatrics, the viewer can enjoy footage of Wayne shredding in different locations in between energetic performances of the Mannie Fresh, Tarik Azzouz, and STREETRUNNER singles:

“Put some money on my head, but your shooter missed, but you know karma is a b***h just like you a b***h/

Walked in the pet store said, “get me a cobra,” gotta keep your friends close, enemies closer/

You know wifey from Australia, she said, “cheers, mate,” then we toast and see how you n***as’ tears taste/

Mix the soda and codeine, that’s a mixtape, and if you hatin’, come and say it to my d*** face/”

Free from his decades-old partnership with Cash Money Records, Wayne has been on cloud nine since he released the long-awaited album Tha Carter V back in 2018, effectively bringing the New Orleans hip hop star back to form after years of legal wrangling. During a recent episode of “Drink Champs,” Wayne spoke on why he remained with the empire that Birdman and Slim built for so long, even after the rest of the Hot Boys didn’t:

“Me being the youngest played a big role… What I mean by that, the effects it had, I was waiting for my turn. I didn’t want everybody to go, I would’ve loved for my turn to be while everybody was [there], but s***, if that was how I got my turn, this is my turn. Also what that means is my immaturity, as far as age. I didn’t have any worries about the business side of it like that, I wasn’t really worried about what I’m not getting or what I’m supposed to be getting. It was [about] the music.”
