Playboi Carti’s new album Whole Lotta Red arrived today (April 24). It’s the follow up to his debut album, Die Lit. News of the album broke when the Atlanta rap star tweeted the mysterious cover art for the album with no caption earlier this month.

Known for his fashion sense and high pitched delivery, Carti’s music is well known in tastemaker social circles. He’s been mentored by fellow fashion and rap icon A$AP Rocky. In fact, Whole Lotta Red arrived courtesy of Rocky’s AWGE label with distribution through Interscope.

Since then, any now had the ATL superstar on their radar thanks to his featured part on Tyler, the Creator’s “EARFQUAKE” from Igor. “@ Meh” arrived out of the blue earlier this month as the first confirmed single, as well.

“@ Meh” follows the usual pattern of guns and sex that Carti fans should come to expect. Neeko Baby, Deskhop and jetsonmade produced the melodic, string-heavy slam. In addition to being runway ready, the rapper addresses his run ins with police with the line, “I’m really ‘bout that shit, we eat at the police,” on the song.

There was some confusion on the internet around the release of the single. Lil Uzi Vert tweeted about the song title and some mistook the post as shade. The Philly artist simply wrote, “Just Meh.” The two previously collaborated on 2016’s “Of Course We Ghetto Flowers”, 2017’s “wokeuplikethis*,” and later “Shoota” from Die Lit. Turns out it wasn’t actual beef.

Be on the lookout for obscure high fashion references on this project. For example, the song “Pain 1993” is a call out to designer Ian Connor’s motto “Born from Pain 1993.”

The album features production from Pi’erre Bourne among others. The title track was leaked on social media by collaborators MaddMax, Smooky MarGielaa and Carti himself last year and an updated version made the final tracklist.
