It’s been almost five months since Juice WRLD passed away. His mother Carmela Wallace is keeping her son’s legacy alive. Today (April 22), she announced that she has created the Live Free 999 fund to help other young people who struggle with mental health issues.

Last December, Juice passed away after suffering a seizure in Chicago’s Midway Airport. His cause of death was later revealed to be an accidental overdose. In a statement, Wallace confirmed that she knew about her son’s battle with mental health and addiction. She wants to share his story in hopes that she can help others who are going through something similar.

“Young people around the world were truly touched by Jarad’s music because he spoke to issues and situations in his music that resonated with them so deeply,” said Wallace. “I was aware of his struggles with addiction, anxiety, and depression; we had many conversations about his challenges with these issues.”

She continued, “I know he truly wanted to be free from the demons that tormented him. I made the decision upon his death that I was going to share his struggles with the world with the objective of helping others.”

The Live Free 999 fund will provide support to programs that address addiction, depression and anxiety and strive towards normalizing the conversation surrounding those topics, especially in underserved communities. It will also support programs that offer positive avenues for people to process their mental health issues.

The “Lucid Dreams” rapper reportedly had over 2,000 unreleased tracks in the vault at the time of his death. His posthumous album is reportedly in the works.

“We plan to honor Juice’s talents, his spirit and the love he felt for his fans by sharing unreleased music and other projects that he was passionately in the process of developing,” his family wrote in January.
