Last year, Wale liberated his sixth studio album Wow… That’s Crazy, which saw 15 tracks from the D.C. emcee and features from Pink Sweats, Lil Durk, Bryson Tiller, Boogie, Jeremih, Ari Lennox, fellow MMG alum Rick Ross and Meek Mill, and more. Following previously released visuals from the project for “On Chill,” “BGM,” and “Love… (Her Fault)” comes another powerful clip for the album opener “Sue Me,” which features vocals from Kelly Price. The D. Woo-produced cut sets the tone with Wale rapping about his success and that of his fellow Black peers:
Dropped the album with Seinfeld, they thought I was tweakin’, a prophet, a genius I’m flyin’ with Lena, I’m ridin’ with Nina/
One write for the Chi, one right where I need her, the funny thing is I’ll always be single, I love me some Logan, I love me some Issa/
I’ll never get either, those women are queens, me? I’m a drunk, I’m a demon, heaven knows I’m a dreamer I seen Taraji and Kelvin, always hope I could be that…/”
The visual is directed by Kerby Jean-Raymond and shows how life would be if race issues were reversed. Real-life situations are also peppering within, including an eye-opening clip of how incarcerated inmates are currently being treated in the midst of the current Coronavirus epidemic.
After ending his partnership with Atlantic and moving to Warner, Wale released 3 well-received EPs in 2018 — It’s Complicated, Self Promotion, and Free Lunch. Last October saw Wow… That’s Crazy make landfall, which received rave reviews and was considered a return to form for Wale since its predecessor Shine.
Having Kelly Price on this album was important as far as really making this a cohesive release. I always wanted to work with her. I mean, she was the voice of Bad Boy in the 90s and made some classic R&B albums. Once we had the Mississippi Boys Choir recorded and live drums tracked, I decided to get Kelly involved again for “Set You Free” so we could finish the album the same way we started it off.
