On Saturday (April 18), R&B lovers everywhere — and with good internet connection — were supposed to tune into an exciting Instagram Live battle between music legends Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds and Teddy Riley. However, after an extremely rocky start that included countless sound and technical issues on Riley’s side, the already much-anticipated battle is being put on hold once again.

After witnessing all of the problems, as well as the two’s IG Live ending after the app’s mandated hour break, both Swizz Beatz and Timbaland — who are the creators of the VERZUZ battles — went on Live themselves to reveal the news. “Bare with us, keep your outfits ready…” Swizz said. He went on to say that there was a possibility that the show may even go on very, very soon. “Maybe they’ll fix it tonight, maybe they’ll fix it tomorrow. But, we’re gonna come back immediately…” The legendary producer added, “S**t happens.”

Before ending his and Timbo’s Live, Swizz closed, “We’re gonna fix this little glitch, we’re gonna come back, and we’re gonna turn all the way up.”

Babyface even made his own video confirming that the showdown would be postponed. You can see it below.

Almost as soon as Riley and Babyface started their battle, fans were quick to point out the New Jack Swing legend’s tech issues. Many people watching even tried telling him what to do to fix them in the comments of the Live, but to no avail. People on Twitter didn’t hesitate to share their two cents about the matter, as they voiced their frustrations, as well.

Even R&B legend Toni Braxton, who Babyface is credited for writing and producing a lot of her biggest hits, tweeted about the battle.

This is the second time that Riley and Babyface’s IG Live battle has been postponed. It was originally scheduled for Sunday, Apr. 5. However, Face later revealed that he was recovering from Coronavirus at the time, which is why it was further delayed until tonight.

The culture needs this battle to happen. So, hopefully third time’s a charm…
