Tory Lanez is fresh out of his contract with Interscope Records and the Chixtape 5 rapper is celebrating his newfound independence.

During a recent conversation with Ebro Darden on “Rap Life,” Lanez revealed that he kept his best records underwraps until he could become independent.

“I didn’t want to give the team those records that I felt like were Earth changing records” Lanez said. “That’s why I haven’t really released none of my real golden songs.”

On The New Toronto 3, Lanez accused Interscope of cheating him on the track “Letter To The City 2.”

“Soon as you hear this verse, I’m out the record deal/They cheated 12 albums, four years, and that’s a record still,” he rapped on the song.

Lanez had been hinting at issues with his former label for a few months now. Back in December, the “Jerry Sprunger” rapper threatened to expose Interscope on social media.

Interscope Records… If yall niggas dont stop playing w/ me… Ima expose whats really going on in that fucking building!!!!!” he wrote in an Instagram post. “Y’all play w me if u want to… Let’s play… y’all got the right fucking one.”

This past February, Lanez announced that once he released The New Toronto 3, his deal with Interscope would be over.

“ITS OFFICIAL, NEW TORONTO 3 COMES OUT MARCH!!!!” he tweeted. “AND AS SOON AS YOU HEAR IT … I HAVE OFFICIALLY FINISHED MY DEAL WITH INTERSCOPE … ITS BEEN REAL.”

Despite the former negative comments about the label, Tory claimed that the relationship ended on good terms.

“And it’s no bad blood with the label [Interscope],” he wrote in a second tweet. “I HAD A 5 ALBUM DEAL ….I GAVE THEM 12 PROJECTS /ALBUMS if u include all the mixtapes with original music. I can OFFICIALLY go on record and say I exceeded that 5 ALBUM MARK … AND IM STILL JUST GETTING MY FEET IN THE WATER.”
