Rihanna helps fund $4.2M grant to aid domestic violence victims in L.A.
Rih and Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey donated $2.1 million each to the fund.
Rihanna’s Clara Lionel Foundation has teamed up with Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey to create an emergency fund to directly benefit those in domestic violence situations amid stay-at-home orders. Rihanna and Dorsey have committed $2.1 million each to the grant for a total of $4.2 million.
The grant “will enable the Mayor’s Fund for Los Angeles to provide 10 weeks of support for victims of domestic abuse including shelter, meals and counseling for individuals and their children,” according to a press release.
For about $125 per day, “the grant will cover food and housing for 90 domestic violence victims per week, with an additional 90 victims every week thereafter for 10 weeks,” according to the Los Angeles Housing Authority.
The Anti singer has been very generous during the pandemic. A few days ago, it was reported that Rih teamed up with JAY-Z to donate a combined $2 million. The donation will go toward several organizations, including the Mayor’s Fund for L.A., Fund for Public Schools, American Civil Liberties Union and the New York Immigration Coalition.
The emergency funds will also offer daycare and resources for healthcare workers’ and first responders’ children, financial support for undocumented workers, learning materials for children in shelters, meal deliveries for Los Angeles and New York City’s homeless and elderly populations, COVID-19 testing in New York and Coronavirus emergency preparedness for prisoners.
Rihanna also purchased $700,000 worth of ventilators to be sent to her home country of Barbados.
“There are a number of populations who are especially vulnerable during this pandemic — those who are undocumented, incarcerated, elderly and homeless, as well as children of frontline health workers and first responders,” Clara Lionel Foundation Executive Director Justine Lucas shared in a statement. “Now more than ever, we need to support organizations prioritizing the health and rights of these individuals.”
