If you’re not familiar with rising producer GuiltyBeatz, you soon will be — the Ghanaian mastermind has continued to push the boundaries of world music over the past few years. This past weekend, he delivered a beautiful, genre-bending new EP titled Different, which sees him collaborating with a slew of artists to give the listener a fresh take on the Afrobeats genre.
The idea behind this EP was to express myself as a world producer. Taking inspiration from the places I have visited across the world and experimenting with sounds that have been inspired from the cities and town I was in… Each artist is someone I have either worked work previously or someone who makes music I actually vibe to. Most of the featured acts happened naturally. We were in the studio and catching vibes.
2018 was the year of GuiltyBeatz ultimate career breakthrough, thanks to his popular single “Akwaaba,” which saw assistance from Mr Eazi, Patapaa, and Pappy Kojo. That hit record spawned a dance that turned viral, to the point that R&B legend Janet Jackson decided to incorporate it into her performances. That success was then following by a slew of collaborations the following year, including his multiple collaborations with none other than Beyoncé for her Lion King: The Gift compilation.
