Tekashi 6ix9ine will officially be released from prison today (Apr. 2), four months ahead of his scheduled August release date.

According to TMZ, the judge has signed off on his request to leave prison early to avoid contracting COVID-19. Effective immediately, 6ix9ine is to be freed from the New York facility he is being held at. He will serve the remainder of his at home under supervised release.

He will have to wear a GPS monitor must remain at an address approved by his probation officer. He can only leave if he needs medical treatment or if he needs to visit his attorney. He must also get pre-approval from the Probation Department.

Yesterday (Apr. 1), it was reported that presiding Judge Engelmayer would be “inclined” to release 6ix9ine if the U.S. Attorney’s Office did not object by 5 pm EST.

6ix9ine’s lawyer has been trying to get his client released from prison early due to the Coronavirus pandemic. The “FEFE” rapper reportedly suffers from asthma and puts him at a heightened risk if he catches the virus. Last week, Judge Engelmayer denied his request on the grounds that he had no authority to release him early. The judge said that if he’d known about the global pandemic at the time of 6ix9ine’s sentencing, he would have ruled that the rapper transfer to home confinement.

“At the time of sentencing, however, the Court did not know and could not have known that the final four months of Mr. Hernandez’s sentence would be served at a time of a worldwide pandemic to which persons with asthma, like Mr. Hernandez, have heightened vulnerability,” Engelmayer wrote in the decision. “Had the Court known that sentencing Mr. Hernandez to serve the final four months of his term in a federal prison would have exposed him to a heightened health risk, the Court would have directed that these four months be served instead in home confinement.”

Welcome home 6ix9ine.
