Vallejo rapper Nef the Pharoah is back with a new project titled CHANGSZN. The first single, “Man What?!” dropped last Friday (March 21), leading up to the full project’s release on Friday (March 27). It features previous collaborators Slimmy B and MAXI BRAVO, as well. The project is eight tracks long and is scheduled to be supported by a six-date tour through California, Wyoming, and Arizona starting in May.

Nef’s last release, Mushrooms and Coloring Books came out late last year and featured the song “High Voltage” featuring Tyga. Sir Chang Chang has been through a lot between projects, previously revealing that he lost his sister and nephew to a shooting earlier this year. His own son has proven to be a source of inspiration during difficult times and he has expressed how important family is to him on several occasions.

The frequent E-40 collaborator has been a staple of the Bay Area rap scene since 2014. Being from the same town as Mac Dre has had a major influence on Nef’s style and being signed to local 40’s Sick Wid It label is the highest seal of approval a rapper from Vallejo can get. CHANGSZN is being distributed in conjunction with KILFMB and San Francisco-based EMPIRE, making it a true Bay Area effort.

All of the songs on the project except for “Body Count” have a featured artist. The multiple collaborators include Guapdad 4000, Baby Yungin, RJmrLA, Lil Bean, Oskie, and the Based God himself Lil B. No stranger to getting the bag, this project looks like it will include plenty of game for listeners to pick up on and flip into a hustle of their own. There is something about the Bay Area that encourages an independent, hustle-first attitude. CHANGSZN can only add more flavor to that sauce.
