Real clearly recognizes real. Case in point — Memphis star NLE Choppa recently connected with Cali artist Roddy Ricch for his latest track “Walk Em Down,” a declaration of gangsta that sees production from Los Hendrix and CashMoneyAP:
“Walk down on ‘em in Balenciaga runners/
My blood slime a n***a out just like an anaconda/
You go against me, then you f***ed just like a used condom/
I roll ‘em up and then I smoke ‘em like some good ganja/
Still doing drive-bys, but I wanna walk ‘em/
If I can’t find ‘em, you know I’m gonna stalk ‘em/
Caution tape up on the scene, I had to white chalk ‘em/
Running from my gun, but my bullets had to hawk ‘em/”
The fact that Roddy Ricch even provided a feature speaks to NLE Choppa’s character, since Roddy has revealed in the past how unlikely he is to work with other artists within the industry. Speaking to Complex, NLE Choppa spoke on how the collaboration came together, which seems to happen from an organic standpoint:
“I hit Roddy through Instagram… I didn’t know if he was even going to respond to me. I’d never DM’d him before. Then we got to talking. He told me, ‘I like to meet the person before I work with them.’ I was like, ‘Shit, me too.’ He came to the studio the same night and when he saw what type of n***a I was, we did the song the same night.”
Previously, NLE Choppa kept the streets fed with last year’s Cottonwood EP, which saw which boasted his breakthrough single “Shotta Flow” and featured additional assistance from Blueface and Meek Mill. Currently, he’s working on his upcoming project Top Shotta, which is also said to feature this year’s single “100 Shots.”
