Young Dolph has come out of retirement. On Friday (March 20), the Memphis native dropped a surprise new album.

On Thursday (March 19), the 34-year-old announced that he had new music on the way. “My new album dropping tonight,” he wrote to Instagram alongside a photo of a bitmoji. After his surprising announcement, fans didn’t hold back their excitement.

“Let’s go,” one fan wrote alongside fire emojis. Another chimed in, “I can’t wait.” A third typed, “Yes!”

As fans might recall, Young Dolph revealed that he was taking a step back from music earlier this month. “Highly considering quitting music because I wanna be with my kids 24/7,” he wrote to social media.

This isn’t the first time that a rapper has made a hasty music retirement announcement. Back in September 2019, Nicki Minaj shared a similar sentiment. “I’ve decided to retire & have my family. I know you guys are happy now. To my fans, keep reppin me, do it til da death of me, in the box- cuz ain’t nobody checkin me. Love you for LIFE,” Minaj posted to Twitter. After posting the tweet, Minaj later apologized for her impulsive message.

Back in February 2016, Dolph released his debut studio album, King Of Memphis, which secured the No. 49 slot on the Billboard 200 chart. The following year, the “Major” rapper shared his sophomore LP, Bulletproof.

Two years ago, during an interview with The Guardian, Dolph opened up about the importance of caring for his family. He confessed that he wants his children to grow up in a world with endless opportunities.

“I want them to stay true to themselves, not do what I want them to do,” he said of his two kids. “They ain’t coming up like me. They come into the world with opportunities.”
