Lil Wayne surprised everyone when it was revealed that he was the man behind the robot costume on the hit show “The Masked Singer.”
On the episode, which aired Feb. 2, the Funeral rapper sang a rendition of Lenny Kravitz’s ”Are You Gonna Go My Way.” After being eliminated from the show, Wayne talked to the judges and crowd about how he felt behind the mask.
“I always hear everybody that does the show always talk about being how it is being behind the mask and all that,” Wayne said. “And how they feel by not being seen and having to go throughout a few days or whatever being, you know, all that stuff. I didn’t get that feeling. Only thing I felt under the mask was, like, it was heavy. It was all good but I still didn’t understand being behind the mask and feeling something different. I didn’t get that feeling.”
Wayne is now explaining the reasoning behind his appearance on the show. He says that he actually wanted to get Nicki Minaj on the show, but the show execs asked for him to do an episode instead.
“I’ve been watching since the first episode, because the first episode, when it came on I knew it was T-Pain,” Lil Wayne said. “Because of that I told [Mack Maine] to call them. I told him ‘Let ‘em know I’m a huge fan’ and I wanted to get Nicki on there. Tell ‘em I would love to get Nicki on there. And it came back like, ‘Man they want you on there.’”
Wayne recently dropped his 13th studio album, Funeral. The LP featured collaborations with Big Sean, Lil Baby, Adam Levine, 2 Chainz, Takeoff, The Dream, Lil Twist, XXXTENTACION and O.T. Genasis, and includes a Kobe Bryant tribute song called “Bing James.”
Do you think Wayne could still get Nicki to do an episode of “The Masked Singer?”
