Hartford, CT artist-songwriter PxRRY has been helping to create some of the dopest songs for some of your favorite artists for some time now, including the likes of K. Michelle, Mindless Behavior and Jahiem. Now, he’s coming to the forefront on his own, having already gained considerable buzz via his EP releases Overdue and Love Notes. Speaking to The Knockturnal, Pxrry explained his writing process and inspirations:

Lyric-wise, it will always be edgy. I take time writing it, I want my music to last and be timeless and it starts with the pen. As far as musical inspirations I would say, Usher, Drake in terms of the pen, that’s why I’m big on the writing because the key is writing. In terms of writing, seeing how country musicians write kind of taught me and helped with writing. I also like a lot of country artists like Gunna and Lil Baby, melodically I would say Future and PartyNextDoor.

Over the weekend, PxRRY delivered a dope new visual for one of his latest singles “Best Friends,” which sees production from his go-to collaborator Richbreed and centers around a very close homegirl of his that he’s been thinking about more than platonically:

“I’m just checkin’, I think we got a connection/

In your life, I’m just guessin’, you need a lover and a best friend…/”

The dark, hazy clip is directed by Jamie Tobias and stars PxRRY and the beautiful Maly Toro, who find themselves blurring the line between simple mates and actual physical partners throughout. Given how relationships come and go these days, the subject matter is certainly something that many can relate to.

In addition to “Best Friends,” PxRRY has gifted the masses with a slew of other addictive cuts over the past year, including “Losing Ya Clothes,” “Plans Tonight” and the most recent “On The Way.” Hopefully, he’ll be delivering even more music in 2020.

In the meantime, you can press play on “Best Friends” below, which is also available via your preferred streaming service.
