Anytime Drake delivers new music, it’s a holiday. Today, the Canadian superstar surprised the world with a music video that features two new tracks, titled “When To Say When” and “Chicago Freestyle.”
Hip hop followers knew that “When To Say When” was somewhere in queue since he revealed the track’s title during last year’s Rap Radar interview. Fans also spotted Drake recording a video in front of the famous Marcy Houses in Brooklyn, best known as Jay-Z’s old stomping grounds. Now, we get to see the results of that — a Theo Skudra-directed clip that sees Drizzy all over New York City, even rocking a New York Yankees jacket for good measure.
About halfway through, viewers then get “Chicago Freestyle,” which sees Drake showing off his massive Toronto estate while rapping about old love, a topic he knows better than anyone:
“Area code in my phone/
What numbers do I still have?/
Who do I know from the past?/
Hit one, she say she got a man/
Hit another one, it goes green/
Must’ve changed phones on the team/
’Member when you lead me in between?/
That was 2017…/”
While it’s been a couple of years since Scorpion, Drake has continued to remain on everyone’s dial since, mainly thanks to one-off drops like Scary Hours and his celebratory Best In The World pack and re-releases of classic loosies like last year’s Care Package. He’s also provided plenty of assists during that period for Travis Scott, French Montana, Bad Bunny, Chris Brown, Meek Mill, Rick Ross, Swae Lee, Future and more. Simply put, the man has managed to keep his foot on the game whether or not a new album was even a thought.
