Kodak Black teases new album

Kodak Black has been putting together a new album while he’s been in prison. Now, the rapper is offering to release what he’s been working on to fans early — on one condition.

“If This Go Platinum B4 My Birthday Ima Drop A Album,” he captioned a snippet from his “Because of You” music video on Instagram. “If Not Ya’ll Gotta Wait Till I Come Home.”

Kodak’s Valentine’s Day release marked his first single of the year, following his 2019 Pimpin’ Ain’t Easy two-song package and “Zombie” single, featuring NLE Choppa and DB Omerta. According to the post, if “Because of You” sells over one million units, his next project could be out before June. Otherwise, fans are looking at a 2022 release date.

Kodak’s lawyer Bradford Cohen gave an update on the rapper’s spirits last month and revealed that he was working on new music.

“It was good to see [Kodak] and he was in good spirits,” Cohen wrote on Instagram after visiting him at the Oklahoma Federal Transition Center. “He is working on new projects and reading. He wants to thank all of you for the support.”

Cohen is currently working to appeal Kodak’s 46-month prison sentence, claiming the rapper was incorrectly labeled as a prior felon, which could have hurt his sentencing. If the labeling is corrected, Cohen seeks to reduce Kodak’s sentence to a 2021 release date.

Kodak previously transitioned out of the FDC Miami prison and claimed that guards had abused him by withholding medical attention and food, tampering with his mail and more.

“Lieutenant F. Arroyo has been very vindictive towards me and I have a strong feeling it has something to do with me being set up, laced, bruised and brutally beaten two weeks before my court date,” he wrote last month on Instagram. “There is a big conspiracy going on in this building on Me. Santiago Torres is using her position wrongfully in Miami FDC and is abusing her authority.”

Kodak’s mother subsequently hired an attorney and threatened to sue the Bureau of Prisons over her son’s abuse claims.
