The Weeknd reveals upcoming album title
‘After Hours’ is on the way.
After dropping off album cuts “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights,” the Weeknd has revealed the title of his upcoming project—After Hours. Although the record hasn’t been given a release date yet, it’s expected to arrive later this year.
The Weeknd announced After Hours through an Instagram video shared on Thursday (Feb. 13).
“Album title,” he captioned the promotional clip. Maintaining the trippy Las Vegas-set cinematic theme that he used for both the “Heartless” and “Blinding Lights” visuals, the short clip shows the Weeknd’s car speeding through Sin City while the disorienting camera somersaults through the air.
After going social media-silent in June, the Weeknd began teasing his fourth studio album in August. The Canadian crooner sent fans into a flurry when he tweeted that he was in “album mode full effect.”
After Hours will serve as a follow-up to the Weeknd’s critically acclaimed 2018 EP My Dear Melancholy, and mark his first full-length album since 2016’s Starboy. At seven tracks, My Dear Melancholy, made history as the shortest project to top the Billboard 200 in eight years, beating out Glee: The Music, Journey to Regionals.
“I don’t want to open that Pandora’s box, talking about relationships.” he told TIME about the EP—largely dubbed a breakup project. “It’s therapeutic. You want to get it out. It’s like you close a chapter.”
Since My Dear Melancholy, the Weeknd has dropped a handful of one-off singles, including “Lost in the Fire” with Gesaffelstein and “Game of Thrones” track “Power Is Power” with SZA and Travis Scott.
He also recently cameoed in the Adam Sandler-starring film, Uncut Gems. During an interview Vulture, Sandler talked about working alongside the Weeknd for the movie and mentioned his upcoming album.
“I love that kid. He’s such a nice guy. He’s so deep,” Sandler shared in the interview. “That new album, my God! Did you hear that yet? It’s good.”
