The world is still in shock and disbelief about the sudden passing of NBA legend Kobe Bryant.

Yesterday (Jan. 26), news surfaced that Bryant was killed in a helicopter crash along with his 13-year-old daughter Gianna and seven other passengers, including the pilot. While investigators are still trying to determine what went wrong, Bryant’s family, friends, and fans are left to pick up the pieces.

Many fans can’t help but point out the timing of his death. Just the night before, Lebron James passed Bryant on the NBA’s all-time scoring list. After hearing the news, Bryant took to Twitter to congratulate James on the huge achievement. He tweeted, “Continuing to move the game forward @KingJames. Much respect my brother 💪🏾 #33644.” This would ultimately become Bryant’s final tweet.

Not only did Bryant pass the torch to James before he died, James was sure to give his respects to him while he was still alive. After passing Bryant on the all-time scoring list, he gave a post-game interview paying homage to the former Laker, just one day before his death.

“It’s just too much. It’s too much. The story is too much,” James said of Bryant. “It doesn’t make sense. Just to make a long story short, now I’m here in a Lakers uniform, in Philadelphia, where he’s from. The first time I ever met him, gave me his shoes on All-Star Weekend. It’s surreal. It doesn’t make no sense, but the universe just puts things in your life. And I guess when you live in the right way, when you just give it everything to whatever you’re doing, things happen organically.

”And it’s not supposed to make sense, but it just happens. And I’m happy just to be in any conversation with Kobe Bean Bryant, one of the all-time greatest basketball players to ever play, one of the all-time greatest Lakers. The man has two jerseys hanging up in Staples Center. It’s just crazy.”

James has not released a statement since Bryant’s passing, but video footage of him getting consoled after a flight has surfaced. Bryant is survived by his wife Vanessa and his three daughters, Capri, Natalia, and Bianka. We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to the family and friends of all of the passengers on that helicopter. Check out his final tweet below.
