Sheila E., Usher, and FKA Twigs perform for Prince Grammys tribute
Usher, Sheila E., and FKA Twigs take the stage to honor the late Prince at the Grammys.
A special tribute to the late Prince took place at the 62nd Grammy Awards and it got everyone out of their seats.
FKA Twigs, Sheila E., and Usher took the stage to perform a medley of Prince’s hits including “Little Red Corvette,” “When Doves Cry,” and “Kiss.”
Sheila E. killed it on the drums as Usher wowed the crowd with his vocals. FKA Twigs made an entrance as she came in swinging on a pole. She and Usher lit up the stage with their electric dance moves. FKA did not sing during the performance.
“I was very honored to be able to do this for so many reasons, but to be able to help celebrate the life of a dear friend and be a part of this and be musical director is awesome,” Sheila E. recently told Rolling Stone about the tribute. “It’s almost unfair to do a two-hour tribute to him — we could do a full week.”
The Prince tribute was met with mixed reviews from viewers on social media.
One unimpressed fan tweeted, “The prince tribute looks like it was put together by someone mad at prince for telling beyoncé she didn’t need to release formation world tour.”
Another fan was upset that FKA Twigs didn’t sing during the performance. She wrote, “Not a fan of FKA Twigs being reduced to a pole dancer while Usher sings, even if it is a Prince tribute #GRAMMYs.”
One satisfied fan tweeted, “My, my, my!!! #Usher did a FABULOUS, SUPERB AND AWESOME JOB AT TONIGHT’S GRAMMYS HONORING ‘OUR’ ONE AND ONLY -PRINCE- I STILL HAVE GOOSE BUMPS!! USHER, you did it!!!”
According to Billboard, the Let’s Go Crazy: The Grammy Salute to Prince concert is scheduled for next Tuesday night (Jan. 28) on CBS. Alicia Keys, John Legend, Chris Martin, Beck, Juanes Foo Fighters, Earth Wind & Fire, Common, H.E.R and others are slated to perform.
