Pop Smoke was reportedly arrested Friday morning (Jan. 17) on a federal charge for interstate transport of a stolen motor vehicle. According to court documents obtained by TMZ, the Brooklyn-bred drill rapper is accused of transporting a stolen 2019 Rolls Royce Wraith from California to New York.
Law enforcement sources informed the outlet that Pop met the owner of the Rolls Royce back in November at a Los Angeles recording studio. They reportedly entered a verbal agreement, where Pop would use the individual’s car for an upcoming music video. In exchange, the car’s owner would be given VIP treatment at a future concert.
When Pop did not return the car the next day, per the alleged agreement, the owner tracked the car’s GPS to Arizona and reported that it had been stolen. TMZ further writes that the car’s owner noticed the Rolls Royce on Pop’s social media last month, in a since-deleted post that had been geo-tagged in New York.
Pop was arrested at the J.F.K. International Airport on Friday morning (Jan. 17), after returning from Paris Fashion Week. He’ll reportedly be arraigned in Brooklyn Federal Court next Friday (Jan. 24). Brooklyn federal prosecutors are handling the ongoing case.
Court documents obtained by Complex also allege that he “knowingly and intentionally” transported the vehicle approximately between Nov. 5 and Dec. 3.
Yesterday (Jan. 16), Pop released his latest single, “Christoper Walking.” The song is thought to be the first offering from his forthcoming sophomore project, Meet The Woo 2. Last year, he released his first Meet The Woo installment and was featured on Travis Scott’s Jackboys collaboration.
Pop hasn’t given his Meet The Woo 2 album an official release date yet, although back in November he tweeted that the follow-up project was “on the way.”
