2020 is just days away, and we still haven’t gotten a new Rihanna album, even after she promised us that it would be released this year.

Fans flood her Instagram comments daily asking about when the “Needed Me” singer would release R9. Yesterday (Dec. 22), she took to Instagram to troll her fans and say that she is refusing to release the album. The clip shows a cute puppy excitedly hopping around inside a cardboard box, set to the iconic House of Pain song “Jump Around.” She captioned the video, “update: me listening to R9 by myself and refusing to release it.”

Rihanna has not released an album since Anti in 2016. Chart Data reported that Anti marked it’s 200th week on the Billboard 200 chart, becoming the first album by a Black woman to reach this milestone. In November, Rihanna told Vogue that her forthcoming album will be “reggae-inspired or reggae-infused.” She clarified, “It’s not gonna be typical of what you know as reggae. But you’re going to feel the elements in all of the tracks.”

Although we don’t know if we’ll be getting an album soon, we do know that a Rihanna documentary is in the works.

Amazon has landed the rights to a Peter Berg-directed documentary about Rihanna, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Amazon reportedly paid $25 million for the untitled film’s rights.

The Hollywood Reporter reports, “The untitled doc, which Berg began working on years ago, is dubbed an unfiltered look into Rihanna’s life, providing a glimpse into the evolution of one of the world’s most well-known pop artists. With unparalleled access into the singer’s life and more than 1,200 hours of footage, the doc offers private insights into Rihanna’s personality, sense of humor, work ethic, family and love.”

There are still eight days left in 2019, so let’s keep hope alive that we’ll get a single, video, or album. We’ll even take the cover art at this point.
