Man indicted for fatal Popeyes chicken sandwich stabbing
Twenty-eight-year-old Kevin Davis was fatally stabbed last month.
A man has been indicted over the fatal stabbing of a Popeyes customer. According to CNN, a Maryland grand jury indicted 30-year-old Ricoh McClaine on Tuesday (Dec. 17) for stabbing 28-year-old Kevin Davis to death, while the two waited in line for a chicken sandwich.
According to Prince George’s County State’s Attorney Aisha N. Braveboy, McClaine is accused of common law murder and carrying a dangerous weapon with intent to injure. The stabbing occurred on Nov. 4 outside of a Popeyes restaurant in Oxon Hill, MD.
CNN further reports that the altercation began when Davis cut the line in front of several customers who were waiting for the incredibly popular sandwich. McClaine confronted Davis and stabbed him about 15 seconds later, according to local authorities.
McClaine was arrested more than a week after the incident. Prince George’s Police Chief Hank Stawinski told CNN that the fatal argument over a chicken sandwich “marginalizes the grief and belittles the consequences” of Davis’ death.
“We have been able to determine, preliminarily, that this is related to the release of the sandwich here at this restaurant,” Prince George’s County Police Department Director of Media Relations Jennifer Donelan previously told Fox 5. “This individual was in line specifically for the sale of the sandwich when another customer and he got into an altercation and that ended with the victim being stabbed outside of the business.”
Davis was transferred to a local hospital after the stabbing, where he died from his injuries.
“Knowing these details and knowing what happened here and knowing that a life was taken, it is hard to put into words; I can’t find the right words, to describe what this man did to this innocent victim,” Donelan had told NBC Washington News4 at the time.
Following the attack, a memorial site for Davis was set up outside the Popeyes restaurant.
