Spotify’s Tekashi 6ix9ine podcast arriving in January

The wake of Tekashi 6ix9ine’s legal troubles will give way to another documentary series, this time in the form of a podcast. Narrated by Angie Martinez and co-produced by Spotify and Complex, “Infamous: The Tekashi 6ix9ine Story” will premiere exclusively on the streaming service Jan. 28.

The eight-part series will tell the story of the New York rapper, from his humble beginnings as a deli counter employee to his high profile federal racketeering case.

“Tekashi has a polarizing personality and his story has taken us on a roller coaster ride like nothing we’ve ever seen in hip-hop,” Martinez said in a statement on Tuesday (Dec. 17). “So, when Complex reached out with this project, I was excited about the opportunity to help tell this story.”

The “FEFE” rapper is set to be sentenced on Wednesday (Dec. 18) for his racketeering and firearms charges. 6ix9ine, his family and prosecutors previously wrote letters to federal Judge Engelmayer asking for a reduced sentence, the latter citing 6ix9ine’s helpful testimonies against Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods members.

Mixed reports have circulated as the rapper’s sentencing date nears. The Blast previously reported that 6ix9ine is still facing 37 years due to an additional sexual misconduct charge, while On Smash wrote that the defense attorney and federal government are pushing for time served. Judge Engelmayer will hand down the official decision Wednesday morning (Dec. 18).

The rainbow-haired rapper’s story is one that has fascinated many. Besides the upcoming Spotify and Complex collaboration, Showtime Documentary Films also previously announced a limited docuseries detailing 6ix9ine’s journey, in partnership with Rolling Stone, Lightbox and Imagine Documentaries.

Further still, back in October, 50 Cent announced he’d be producing a docuseries titled, “A Moment In Time,” which will tell the stories of 6ix9ine, Snoop Dogg, Scott Storch and former NBA stud Rafer Alston. Snapchat will also debut a series about the rapper’s trial, featuring Ebro Darden, Tory Lanez and more.
