Rapsody says she’s “disappointed” over zero Grammy noms

She referenced the award show on her Funk Flex freestyle.

Rapsody lit up her Funk Flex freestyle on Hot 97 this Thursday (Nov. 21), where she mentioned Drake getting booed at Camp Flog Gnaw, Nipsey Hussle and the recently revealed 62nd Annual Grammy Award nominations.

“I’m triggered / I gotta make bullet points / Album of the Year / One of my greatest is my older joints,” she spit over AMP-produced beat.

Rapsody’s 2017 album, Laila’s Wisdom, was nominated for a Grammy last year, as well as the project cut “Sassy” for Best Rap Song. However, the North Carolina-bred rapper’s album from this year, Eve, received zero Academy nominations.

“Today…..disappointed. Yes. Frustrated…beyond,” she wrote on Instagram. “But, you have to tell yourself the good fight is never an easy one. And the people that are the faces of the purpose behind your art are what makes creating not empty: with awards. nominations, or none at all.”

Rapsody also shouted out Freddie Gibbs, who received zero noms despite releasing his Madlib-produced Bandana album this year.

“[Freddie Gibbs]…you put out one of the best albums….to everyone nominated for anything congratulations….to all artist who create….keep the microphone, pens, visuals, instruments lit. Art is too important not to share. Mad love,” she wrote.

In her post, Rapsody shared that although “the acknowledgment for your craft indeed feels amazing,” she ultimately appreciates her fans for the love that they “award” her.

Eve included a total of 16 tracks and contributions from J. Cole, PJ Morton, Queen Latifah, SiR, JID, Elle Varner, Mereba, D’Angelo, GZA, K. Roosevelt and Leikeli47.

“It made me think of who I’m influenced by, I talk about female rappers, but I also talk about Cicely Tyson and Phylicia Rashad and Nikki Giovanni,” Rapsody previously told Billboard of the album. “Throughout my career, I’ve always talked about black women—not just female rappers—and how much they’ve inspired me and made me who I am. This is my love letter to not only myself, but all black women.”
