R. Kelly was a no-show at the hearing for his child pornography case in Chicago last week.

According to NBC4i, the singer’s lawyer told a federal judge than an infected toe prevented Kelly from attending the hearing. The outlet reports that Kelly is being detained at a jail two blocks from the courthouse and was expected to appear at the Wednesday (Oct. 30) hearing.

The R&B singer’s defense attorney Steve Greenberg said that one of Kelly’s toenails was removed for treatment, and the singer was worried that someone might trample his toe as he was escorted to and from court.

During the hearing, the judge said that he would rule later on motions to dismiss some of the charges against Kelly and consider bond. The singer pleaded not guilty to federal charges in Chicago and New York, where he has been accused of a racketeering scheme to sexually abuse girls.

Kelly’s next hearing has been set for Feb. 13.

On another note, the singer’s ex-wife Andrea Kelly has spoken out. While speaking to Extra’s Jennifer Lahmers, Drea, as she is commonly known, addressed backlash she received after appearing on Lifetime’s “Surviving R. Kelly” docu-series. “It was really hard… the victim shaming, the victim-blaming, the backlash I was not prepared for,” Drea told Extra. “I thought, ‘Here I am coming forward, this is about women… women’s empowerment, we’re in this together, and I just want to give validity to these women’s stories and hopefully, if they don’t believe them, at least they’ll (believe) the ex-wife. It was the complete opposite.”

Drea also denied rumors that she was lying about her story, so that she could claim her ex-husband’s money. She continued, “There’s no price tag on any woman’s soul… You can’t put a price on a life… At the end of the day, women are fighting for their lives… That’s why I often say you may love R. Kelly, but you might not like Robert.”
