Kevin Hart shares emotional video documenting his recovery

Kevin Hart shared a video with his 80 million Instagram followers, documenting his road to recovery after his serious car accident, which occurred on Sept. 1, 2019.

“Basically, what you realize is that you’re not in control,” he says in the voiceover of the clip. “No matter how much you think you’re in control, you’re not in control. At the end of the day, it can all be over, man.”

The video, which he posted Tuesday (Oct. 29) night, includes montage clips documenting the accident, home videos of Hart’s family and friends and the comedian engaged in physical therapy.

“You know, when God talks, you gotta listen,” he said. “I swear, life is funny. Because some of the craziest things that happen to you, end up being the things that you needed most. And in this case, I honestly feel like God basically told me to sit down.”

Hart was one of three people involved in the one-car crash that occurred in Calabasas, CA. He and the driver, Jared Black, sustained back injuries. Earlier this month, the California Highway Patrol determined that the accident was caused by Black’s reckless driving. The car, Hart’s 1970 Plymouth Barracuda, was found to lack critical safety features, like safety harnesses and airbags.

”After my accident, I see things differently,” Hart continued in the video. “I see life from a whole new perspective. My appreciation for life is through the roof.”

“I’m thankful for my family, my friends. I’m thankful for the people that simply ride with me, and have been with me, because you stood by me,” he continued. “My fans. I’m thankful for all of your love and support. So don’t take today for granted because tomorrow’s not promised. And more importantly I’m thankful for God, I’m thankful for being alive.”

Hart concluded the video with footage of his doctor discussing his physical rehabilitation, who tells Hart his recovery will likely take a year.

“I’m not in a rush,” Hart responds. “I’m thankful for simply still being here, on the road to being a bigger and better version of me. I’m looking forward to an amazing 2020.”
