Lauryn Hill holds intimate concert for Los Angeles fans

  /  10.20.2019

Lauryn Hill held a special intimate concert for some of her fans in Los Angeles.

According to Billboard, following Hill’s one-time-only headlining performance at the Hollywood Bowl with H.E.R., she announced that she would be delivering a special performance at the Mayan in Downtown Los Angeles. The show kicked off with a line around the block and featured two opening performers, female reggae singer Tara Harrison and newcomer Juto.

The former Fugees frontwoman took the stage at midnight on Saturday (Oct. 19) and sang in front of a crowd of 1,700. The outlet reports that Hill wore a striped gown and performed into the early morning. She did a number of her hits, including “Ready or Not” and “Killing Me Softly.”

We previously reported that Hill is making a musical comeback. A new song from the singer will appear on the soundtrack for the upcoming film, Queen & Slim, which is due out in theaters on Nov. 15. The film stars Daniel Kaluuya and Jodie Turner-Smith, and was directed by Melina Matsoukas. Queen & Slim is based on a screenplay written by Lena Waithe.

The new record will mark Hill’s first solo release since she dropped “Black Rage (Sketch)” in 2014. However, that didn’t stop her from being played on the radio or earning streams. Hill has been appearing on recent singles due to sampling. Drake sampled Hill on “Nice for What” and Cardi B used her vocals on her Invasion of Privacy hit “Be Careful.”

In fact, Drizzy fused New Orleans bounce with his sample of Hill’s “Ex-Factor.” He released the women empowerment-themed video for “Nice for What” in 2018. Not only did he uplift women with the song’s lyrics, but he also had a slew of star-studded women cameos in the video. Tiffany Haddish, Tracee Ellis Ross, Issa Rae, Yara Shahidi, Misty Copeland, and more made appearances in the visual.
