DJ Premier first teased the release of a new Gang Starr album on his Instagram last month. On Thursday (Oct. 17), he came through with an official tracklist and release date for the historic project.

“Y’all Want Some More Of This @gangstarr Shit???” Preemo wrote on Instagram on Sept. 27, sharing a nostalgic clip.

The forthcoming LP, named One Of The Best Yet, marks Gang Starr’s first album in 16 years. The duo’s last album, The Ownerz, dropped in 2003, seven years before the tragic death of emcee Guru.

Despite Guru’s absence, Preemo revealed he’s reconnected with his fallen collaborator while putting together the upcoming project.

“This album means everything to me,” he told HipHopDX. “It’s a continuation of what I never wanted to end. It’s a very foreign place for me and very emotional.”

The prolific producer focused on envisioning Guru’s aura and presence in the studio as he recorded the album, even keeping his urn placed on top of the production console.

Guru suffered a cardiac arrest in 2010 and fell into a coma, dying at the age of 48. He was survived by his parents, three siblings and his son, Keith Casim.

“I get happy, sad, excited; my feelings are kind of all over the place. But predominantly, just very happy to be making music with Guru again,” Premier says.

Along with the official tracklist and relese date, Gang Starr dropped off an album teaser single called “Bad Name.” The new song follows Gang Starr’s previously released One Of The Best Yet cuts and J. Cole-assisted single and video, “Family and Loyalty.”

The 16-song LP will feature M.O.P., Q-Tip, Group Home, Royce Da 5’9, Jeru The Damaja, Ne-Yo, Nitty Scott, Talib Kweli, Big Shug, Freddie Foxxx and J. Cole.

One Of The Best Yet is set to drop on Nov. 1. Listen to Gang Starr’s latest release, “Bad Name,” below.
