Kanye West holds his Sunday Service on Howard University’s campus
Sunday Service is on a Saturday this week.
Kanye West’s Sunday Service tour has hit another city and this time, the rapper incorporated some school spirit. According to Complex, ‘Ye held a semi-surprise Sunday Service today (Oct. 12) at Howard University for their annual homecoming. The event was reportedly announced overnight and was sold out by 8 a.m. this morning. NBC Washington reported that Kanye performed on the university’s quad-area. Kanye donned a tan coat, while “performing new verses and raising his hands to the sky for the worship-style show.”
Singer Tony Williams, who is also Kanye’s cousin, sang many of the songs at the early service, as well as conducted the choir. The service was also a family affair, as Kim Kardashian and their children North and Saint West were in attendance as well. In fact, Kanye can be seen in some photos holding his kids on his shoulders during different parts of the performance.
Gregg Carr, the chair of the Howard University Department of Afro-American Studies confirmed Kanye’s appearance on the historical Black campus Saturday morning (Oct. 12). “If @kanyewest is indeed at #HowardU this morning, send him to the third floor of the Founder’s Library after he’s done. I have some books for him,” Carr tweeted.
NBC also reported that Halim Steward and Momulu Stewart touched the stage to share their stories. The men are both from Washington, D.C. and were convicted of murder when they were teens. Kim took a special interest in Stewart’s case and has written a letter in support of his release following him being incarcerated for 20+ years.
In other news, Kim Kardashian was recently baptized in her ancestors’ native land, Page Six reports. “Thank you Armenia for such a memorable trip. So blessed to have been baptized along with my babies at Mother See of Holy Etchmiadzin, Armenia’s main cathedral which is sometimes referred to as the Vatican of the Armenian Apostolic Church,” Kim tweeted on Thursday (Oct. 10). Kim and Kanye’s children Saint, 3, Chicago, 1, and 5-month-old Psalm were also baptized on Monday (Oct. 7). The couple’s elder daughter, North West, was baptized in Israel back in 2015.
