While on his press run for his sophomore album, Kirk, DaBaby dropped by Power 105.1’s The Breakfast Club. During his time there, the North Carolina spitter emphasized the importance of building meaningful relationships.

“When I establish relationships, you know, I like to build on ‘em, especially when I feel like they can go somewhere and it was established genuinely,” he said.

Speaking on that idea further, DaBaby praised Nicki Minaj for her work ethic and genuine nature. The 27-year-old spitter recalled Minaj’s easy-going spirit when it came to her featured verse on his newest track, “iPhone.”

“The one with Nicki Minaj, genuinely. No matter what people say about her, when it comes to me, I don’t got nothin’ bad to say about her,” he said. “The way she coordinated with me once we did the song. The way she reached out [when] she did the ‘Suge’ freestyle.”

He continued, “The way she reached out afterward and was like, ‘Let’s work.’ Sent [her the song] she sent it right back. Coordinated with me, ‘What you think?’ Hit me back a week later. ‘I’m talkin’ with my husband, I’m thinkin’ ‘bout changing this part. He said don’t change that sh*t. What you think?’ You get what I’m sayin’? That’s Nicki Minaj asking me what I think about her verse? Don’t change s–t! Let’s go! Just dope man. Genuine relationships. Megan Thee Stallion. Genuine relationships.”

In addition to Minaj, DaBaby also tapped on Chance The Rapper, Gucci Mane, Lil Baby, Moneybagg Yo, Migos and more to bring his LP to life. DaBaby has had a stellar year and moving forward, the musician wants to continue creating a legacy worth remembering.

“I am a perfectionist. I don’t really limit myself. I want people to look at me crazy. As quick as I am, gaining success as I have, I knew it was going to take place. I’m doing it to succeed. When it comes to my goals, I’m talking Grammys, I’m talking legendary, to be the greatest of all time,” he said to XXL
