After taking the stand for three days straight, prosecutors are reportedly looking into witness protection for 6ix9ine.

The rapper, who was born Daniel Hernandez, has testified against alleged Nine Trey Gangsta Blood members, Aljermiah “Nuke” Mack and Anthony “Harv” Ellison. According to The New York Times, prosecutors have been looking into witness protection since February.

“Despite how connected we are, and the appetite for social media content in this country, there are places where, if this kid gets a haircut and wears normal clothes, no one would know or care who he is,” Jay Kramer, a former F.B.I official said to The Times.

In doing so, prosecutors are looking into the removal of Hernandez’s tattoos. “United States Marshals Service, which runs the witness protection program, would pay for the removal of Mr. Hernandez’s signature face tattoos,” the article states.

It makes sense as to why prosecutors are worried about the 23-year-old’s safety. Throughout his trial, 6ix9ine implicated Jim Jones and Trippie Redd as gang members. In a recording that has surfaced on the internet, Jones is heard telling Mel Murda that gang members should “violate” the rainbow-haired rapper. “He was never a gang member. They going to have to violate shorty because shorty is on some bulls–t,” Jones said.

As members of the hip hop community wait to hear the final outcome, many have shared their opinions on social media. T.I., one of hip hop’s most outspoken critics, revealed that he isn’t surprised that 6ix9ine is cooperating with the terms of his plea deal.

“I knew he wasn’t going to do no long periods of time in no RICO case,” he said. “I didn’t know it was going to happen as soon as it did. I thought it was gonna have a longer run. I thought the run would have been longer. I didn’t know that it would come to such an abrupt halt.”
